WOOTTON AND KURO KIN WAGYU
HISTORY
The Bishops first moved to Wootton in 1900.
In 1944 Mr W A Bishop founded the Wootton Poll Hereford stud with the purchase of Rangers Valley cows and the bull Moreduval Alex 4th.
Wootton Poll Herefords, at one time the oldest and largest Poll Hereford stud in the state, was dispersed in 1997.
Kuro Kin Wagyu was founded in that year.
We started with genetics from Takeda Farms, Sumo Wagyu and Hammond Farms. Sires added include Michifuku, Terutani, Fukutsuru 068, ET003, Kikuyasu 400, Kandagene DM 100, Overflow Katsumi and Overflow Kaneyama, Itoshigenami, Goshu Michitaro and Goshu Michishige, Bar R 4P Sanjiro and Itozurudoi. We have also focused on superior females such as Suzutani, Rikitani and Okutani to name some of them.
GOALS
Our aim is to produce the best Wagyu genetics in large framed functional cattle able to survive on natural pastures under Australian conditions.
This year all our Fullblood Wagyu cows have raised their own calves without supplementation.
WAGYU SIRES
In this country the main sire lines are Tajiri or Tajima, Fujyoshi or Shimane and Kedaka or Tottori.
Tajima lines are known for high marbling and excellent beef quality, in association with lower growth and smaller frames. ET 003 (Kitateruyasudoi J2810), Itoshigenami, Fukutsuru 068 and Michifuku are just some of the high Tajima sires in use at Kuro Kin Wagyu.
Shimane lines produce well balanced cattle with large frames and good mothering ability but perhaps a little coarser marbling. Dai 7 Itozakura is probably the most famous of this line
The Kedaka lines from the Tottori province descended from the sire Kedaka. They exhibit good growth and larger frame , a noted sire being Dai 20 Hirashige.
At Kuro Kin Wagyu we have selected high Tajima bloodlines with enough infusions of the Shimane and Kedaka lines to capture size, balance and maternal qualities, while never loosing sight of good tempeprament.
HEALTH
Wootton lies within a Johne’s protected area and a Johne’s Check Test was performed by the DPI last year and again in February this year, clearing our cattle to go anywhere in Australia.
We run 1100 females on 8500 acres to produce Wagyu F1 steers and heifers and Fullblood Wagyu Bulls and Females.
F1 weaner steers are sold into Japanese and Domestic Markets, and the F1 heifers are exported or grown out and sold into various domestic markets.
Most of the Fullblood females are retained for breeding purposes.
Any Fullblood Bulls that do not meet our stringent selection criteria are sold as steers into feedlots or exported to Japan.
